CARLSBAD, Calif. — September 3, 2026 — Carlsbad High School was placed under a precautionary lockdown Thursday afternoon after the Carlsbad Police Department received a report of a phoned-in threat directed at the school.
According to an update issued around noon, police began working closely with school officials after receiving the report. Officers, along with law enforcement partners, were dispatched to the campus to conduct a thorough search and investigate the circumstances surrounding the threat.
The lockdown was described as a precautionary measure intended to protect students and staff while authorities determined whether there was any credible danger. At the time of the update, students and employees remained inside the school under lockdown procedures and were not permitted to leave or be picked up.
Parents and guardians were specifically asked not to come to the school campus while the police response was underway. Officials said keeping surrounding streets clear was important so emergency personnel could move freely and safely around the campus.

Carlsbad High School, a public school serving grades 9 through 12, is located at 3557 Lancer Way in Carlsbad. The Carlsbad Unified School District states that the safety and welfare of students and staff are its highest priority and maintains established safety and emergency-preparedness procedures in coordination with law enforcement.
As the investigation continues, school officials are communicating directly with families and are expected to provide additional information when it becomes available.
